![]() ![]() The honey bee stinger is composed of several distinct parts that work in unison. The female honey bee stinger is a complex structure. This action forces the rigid stinger to a vertical, downwards angle. ![]() When a honey bee stings, it grips its prey with its legs and pushes backward, pointing the sting shaft at its victim. The queen bee has a smooth stinger, which she can use as a weapon. Male bees, also known as drones, are larger and do not have stingers at all. The honey bee stinger is a complex structure made of many parts and is used as a weapon to defend the hive or the bee itself. The ancient wasps, like the wasps of today, use their stingers as a weapon to paralyze or kill their victims. In most insects, the ovipositor is used to lay eggs. The stinging apparatus of the honey bee is a modified ovipositor (egg laying tube) with associated venom glands that all bees have. Along with this unique adaptation came the evolution of the honey bee stinger, which is a unique feature, suggesting that this evolved once the honey bees became a distinct genus. The modern honey bee was one of the first bee species to live in a group and not in solitary isolation. This early bee was different than the honey bee we know today, which evolved around 25 million years ago. To take advantage of this protein source, the wasp began to evolve into a pollen-carrying bee.Īs the earth warmed during the Cretaceous Period, and the warmer climate created flowering plants which needed to be pollinated, the bee was evolving to become the perfect pollinator. Like most of the flowering plants of today, the flowering plants of the Cretaceous period needed help in transferring pollen. During the Jurassic Period, most of the plants reproduced by transferring pollen through the effects of wind. The Cretaceous was a warming period of the earth with many changes in biological diversity including the first mammals and the first true flowering plants. The first bee evolved from wasp-like ancestors who were predatory hunting insects which were abundant during the Jurassic Period, beginning approximately 201.3 million years ago to the beginning of the Cretaceous Period, approximately 145 million years ago. Our friend has a 1 in 163 chance of results that bad, and your result was 60% likely to occur. To appreciate the uniqueness of the female honey bee stinger, it’s important to understand how this complex and distinct appendage evolved. Of course if the drop rate is actually much worse, like say 1%, it's very believable: > pbinom(q=0, size=50, prob=0.01, lower.tail=TRUE) #0 in 50 (1%) It's safe to say 2.5% is overly generous, if this is a real observation. The odds of this result is basically 0.0000000377%. Let's also note that one person got 3 drops in allegedly 900 kills. Let's just say it's 2.5% for the sake of argument. ![]() FFXIDB is down right now or I'd have the precise number. I don't have the data, but it feels like my drop rate (over 6 characters) was around 2-4%. Not looking for upvotes here, just trying to learn how this game works. Is there something I don't understand? Is there some kind of reputation, or special item, or buff I need to get these pollens to drop? Is there a food that increase item drop rates? Or can the drop rates be that low that the fifty or so wasps I've killed not be realistically expected to supply what I need? I've leveled two jobs past where I can get exp. ![]() In three more hours of farming, not one drop. In game, people tell me to try Konschtat, whereupon I see there are a plethora of Huge Wasps, to my delight. I've only been playing for a week, and can't imagine how long until I can save up 90000. So I go to the AH, and they go for 30,000 per. I've done my due diligence in Internet research, and spent 2 hours in the crags of La Theine killing Huge Wasps for these. I need clumps of bee pollen for a Rhapsody quest. So, I'm effectively new, my last play period was 04 and frankly I had forgotten virtually everything about playing this game.
